Ever since I discovered chokers, I was fascinated by how such simple accessory changed your entire look. I was also fascinated how, back then, you couldn’t find them anywhere. That was a time before online shopping was such an easy task as it is today. I checked out every store, both secondhand and expensive ones, but I couldn’t find any.
So, one day, my friend offered to make me some. She made two of them – one plain black, other with some lace. I didn’t have any sewing skills back then, so making a simple, black satin choker seemed like a huge task for me. Not to mention the lace one! I wore those chokers night and day.
Few years ago, that black satin choker got ripped. I lost contact with that friend who made it, so I was desperate. This time, however, I decided to try to make one by myself. After help from my mother, who, unlike me, is pretty good at sewing and knitting, I managed to recreate it. And I realized, if I could make such an ordinary one, why couldn’t I make some more complicated ones?
At first I used my old jewelry that I never wore. I would put a bead from a childhood bracelet on a piece of satin, and there it was. Nice and unique choker. Soon I started making more complicated ones. I went to some store and bought some pretty lace. I discovered stores selling jewelry material all around the city. In just a few months, I had about dozen of different, colourful chokers.
However, buying all that material wasn’t cheap, and soon I realized that I wasn’t wearing most of the things I’ve made. At about same time, I made acquaintance with some people who were selling their jewelry online, for other people. So I thought to myself, “I could do that, as well”. I could take my hobby and make it profitable, so I can pay for all of the material by myself, with money I’ve earned.
And so it began.
